Community Day 2010
Tuesday, June 15, 2010
Every Year Forest City is presented with the opportunity to give back to the community. This year Forest City partnered with the Adopt-a-Beach Foundation to clean-up the Haleiwa Beach Park. On Wednesday June 9th, the sun rose to a sea of Forest City Volunteer T-shirts surrounding Haleiwa Beach Park. Volunteers arrived early to paint the retaining wall of Haleiwa Beach Park, exceeding the expectation of Adopt-a-Beach by three-fold. Volunteers sanded and painted picnic tables just in time for lunch. By noon the park was beginning to reflect its surrounding beauty. After lunch volunteer clean crews spread out to comb the beach of debris. The crews picked up abandoned suit cases, beach gear and hundreds of discarded cigarette butts. The Forest City volunteers scoured the beach for waste as the Sea Turtles made their appearance. The turtles expressed appreciation by sun-bathing on the newly cleaned beaches. The day was full of great moments and a sense of pride. Forest City’s efforts were rewarded with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Adopt-a-Beach Foundation.
